KN-6922 Apparatus for Homogeneity and Miscibility in Automotive Engine Oils conforms to ASTM D6922 Standard Test Method for Determination of Homogeneity and Automotive Engine Oils. It is important that engine oils from different manufactures be homogeneous and miscible with each other, because operation of automotive engines often do not have prior knowledge of the manufacturer of the oil that is currently used in their application, and engine failure can occur if oils are combined that do not stay homogeneous and function properly.

Overview

KN-6922 Apparatus for Homogeneity and Miscibility in Automotive Engine Oils conforms to ASTM D6922 Standard Test Method for Determination of Homogeneity and Automotive Engine Oils. It is important that engine oils from different manufactures be homogeneous and miscible with each other, because operation of automotive engines often do not have prior knowledge of the manufacturer of the oil that is currently used in their application, and engine failure can occur if oils are combined that do not stay homogeneous and function properly.

Test Principle

  1. Sample Preparation: Mix the test engine oil with six standard reference oils to form six blended samples. Simultaneously, prepare an undiluted sample of the test oil.

  2. Color Observation and Pour Point Determination: Visually observe the color and appearance of the undiluted test oil sample and the six blended samples, and determine their pour points.

  3. Temperature Cycling Treatment: Heat the undiluted test oil sample and the six blended samples to 232°C, cool them to room temperature, and then store them at their respective pour point temperatures for 18h to 24h.

  4. Thawing and Observation: Thaw the samples, observe separation phenomena and changes in appearance during the thawing process to room temperature, and record the data.
